Starter Training – Swimming ACT

Dear parents

Swimming ACT will be hosting a session on starter training.  If you are interested and would like further information please see information below.

Training

Are you interested in training as a starter?  Accredited starters are necessary in order for results from Club Nights and meets to be recognised as ‘official times’ so that swimmers may use the times to enter future events.  It is a great way to help out in your club.

Swimming ACT will be running a training session for people interested in training as starters.  The session is on Friday 11 July at 10.00am at the AIS.  If you are interested please contact me and I will send you the reading materials.

If you can’t make the session but would like to do the training please let me know as we will be running more sessions later this year.

Training for Technical Officers

Dear parents

Swimming ACT  will be organising training sessions for technical officials over the next few weeks, if you are interested please see information below.

Training for Technical Officials

Did you know that it takes around 20 technical officials to run a swimming meet well, not including an army of timekeepers? The officials work as a team to ensure that the meet runs smoothly and is enjoyable for swimmers and spectators.  Importantly, unless we have the minimum number of accredited officials at a meet we cannot submit times for recognition as official times.

Obtaining an accreditation is a great way to support your swimmer, your club and the ACT swimming community.

We have scheduled the following training for technical officials during June:

All technical officials are trained and assessed under Swimming Australia’s National Officiating Program. The program is a competency based program and there are separate modules for each position. There are no written exams. Trainees attend a workshop and gain practical experience on pool deck, prior to being assessed on pool deck at a club night or meet. Don’t be put off by the assessment, it is low key and friendly.

Please email Jenny Dunstan (sact.training@live.com) for more information or to register for the training and receive the training materials.

If you are interested in training for any other modules please let Jenny know.  Training is available for recorders, starters and AOE operators.
